Why are different bar sizes used? 4 mm, 6 mm, and 8 mm bar sizes are used in piercings. Initially, an 8 mm bar is preferred due to potential swelling after the first piercing. After the healing process (approx. 2 months), a 6 mm or 4 mm bar can be used depending on the area and comfort.
