Why are different bar sizes used? Piercings typically use 4 mm, 6 mm, and 8 mm bar sizes. An 8 mm bar is preferred for the initial piercing due to potential swelling. After the healing process (approximately 2 months), a 6 mm or 4 mm bar can be preferred depending on the area and personal comfort.
