We spent our day with Emre Saraçoğlu, co-founder of designer brand Katzze, which decorates and spirits uphomes with their porcelains.
We had the opportunity to get to know Katzze and the story behind it on this day at Emre's home!
Can you tell us about yourself?
My name is Emre Saraçoğlu, founder of Katzze. I have background as a copywriter. And other founder is Ömür Yılmazer. He is a textile designer.
How was your brand Katzze born?
To be honest, it all began with a lampshade. I couldn’t find a lampshade that I liked. Ömür had very pretty fabrics and designs he’d done for the textile sector, and I wanted to make lampshades out of them. Later, those fabrics turned into lampshades, and even pillowcases, but I didn’t understand much about the technical side of things, so I asked for Ömür’s help and he got involved in the process. We no longer produce lampshades, but we’re continuing our adventure with other items.
What inspires you as a designer, what are your sources?
Everything. Films, novels, fictional characters, clothes, paintings, sculptures, sometimes a t-shirt or a pair of shoes... A sentence, maybe. In short, art, history and popular culture.
We see both geometric and natural patterns in your designs, what do you think it reflects?
It reflects us literally. We love contrast, mix patterns… We have a motto. The first rule of KATZZE. There is no rule for KATZZE.
Where does the name Katzze come from?
Our brand-name formed by adding an extra “z” to “katze”, the German word for “cat”. So we admire cats.
What do you like about your job?
A new pattern is a new story for us. And we are excited about new stories.
If you need to describe Katzze with three words…
Authentic, eclective and sensitive.
