Straw marquetry is a surface craft that lives through light. Each piece is created through the process of dyeing, cutting, and individually placing rye straws by hand. The time spent in boiling water determines the tone of each color, allowing every production to carry its own unique color memory. The natural fibers are transformed into fine strips and arranged into geometric compositions across the surface. Due to the silky texture of rye straw, the material reflects light from different angles, creating a living surface that changes throughout the day. Every surface is shaped by hand. Every composition is unique. No piece can ever be exactly repeated. A contemporary surface language shaped through a traditional craft technique.
