Why Different Bar Sizes? 4 mm, 6 mm, and 8 mm bar sizes are used in piercings. An 8 mm bar is preferred due to potential swelling after the initial piercing. After the healing process (approx. 2 months), 4 mm or 6 mm bars can be used depending on the area and comfort.
