Over the centuries, Indigenous peoples in North America have preserved their history through art. As more and more Native Americans were displaced due to westward expanding colonialism, art; it has become a means of keeping their culture and history alive. Their daily lives were recorded through paintings, songs, stories and dances.

Native American art is valuable both functionally and aesthetically; It provides a unique perspective on indigenous cultures by bridging them. These works enrich the lives of all Americans and provide an opportunity to see the world through the eyes of Indigenous peoples.

Blackwing 574 is a tribute to Native American art and the 574 Native communities who use it to express their identity and will. We collaborated with Kaw, Osage, and Lakota artist Chris Pappan to design this special pen. The patterns on the pencil reflect the geometric motifs featured in many Native American cultural expressions. Each item has a firm graphite tip.

A portion of the proceeds from this special series will be donated to the Cheyenne River Youth Project. This project aims to provide enriching arts programs to Lakota youth on the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe Reservation.

Legendary Grammy, Emmy, Pulitzer and Academy Award winners created their works with the Blackwing 602 pen. The list of known users includes John Steinbeck, Looney Tunes creator Chuck Jones, and Disney animator Shamus Culhane, who, according to animation historian Charles Soloman, wanted to be buried with his Blackwing 602. In 2007, the Palomino company launched the Palomino pen line, which uses original incense cedar and quality Japanese graffiti. Artists and writers began to compare them to their beloved Blackwing 602s, and people began asking Palomino to consider reviving the Blackwing brand. Palomino drew on more than 100 years of family-run pen industry experience to relaunch Blackwing pens in 2010. In the 10 years since its revival, Blackwing has grown from a single pen to a culture. It's a culture about living mindfully and finding balance in our fast-paced lives.

Each Blackwing pen has a timeless and distinctive look with its iconic design.  It features a premium Japanese graphite tip crafted with clay for durability and beeswax for smoothness, and a genuine incense-cedar wood body from California and Oregon that sharpens evenly and easily. With its semi-hexagonal shape, it offers an easy-to-grasp use.
