The symbol of Mother Fatima is commonly known as the "Hand of Fatima". However, it is also known as "Hamse Eli", which means five in Arabic, and shows the number of fingers of a hand. To this symbol; Hindus called it 'Humsa Hand', and Jews called it 'Hamesh Hand' or 'Miriam's Hand'. In some cultures, it is found in the form of an upward-facing hand, in some cultures it is in the form of a downward-facing hand.
The story is based on the fact that the Prophet Muhammad, who set an example for Muslims with his modest life, called "a part of my body, the light of my eyes; my heart, soul and conscience", and his daughter Fatima, who continued his lineage, roasted halva in the kitchen one day.
While Fatima was roasting the halva, when she saw her husband Ali with a young and beautiful odalisque, she dipped her hand into the cooked halva. However, nothing happens to him and he continues to roast halva like this. From that day on, it is believed that the sacredness, power and invincibility of Fatima's hand will be overcome by her hand. This symbol acts as a protective shield as well as a source of motivation for people.
