“The wound is where the Light enters you,” Rumi said. Melie builds a bridge between Rumi’s quote and the 500-year-old Japanese art of kintsugi in the Gold Dust & Light collection. Kintsugi is the art of reassembling and mending broken objects using gold dust; it adds a new story to the mended object while emphasizing the beauty of cracks and fissures otherwise seen as flaws. Based on the teaching of wabi-sabi which teaches us to take a different perspective at things that seem to be flaws, this art meets Rumi, who approached the wound in a similar way some 200 years prior, and encourages us to let the light in through our wounds.
