This mobile is developed in co-operation with the Guggenheim Museum in New York.Like the actual architecture, the new mobile is spectacular in its simplicity, contrasting Frank Lloyd Wright’s 1959 spiral with the rectangular shapes of its 1992 annexe and the surrounding skyscrapers.This new Guggenheim Mobile not only explores the architecture but, as with all Flensted Mobiles, also allows the shapes to move and change. Movement allows the light, seen through the tens of tiny windows in each of the buildings, to change in a similar way to the building itself, which ingeniously used its circular structure to allow sunlight to filter through and reflect light naturally: a wonderful way to view art!

Mobile: Hanging from a single point, suspended by wire and thread, it is made up of several shapes in different materials, all of which revolve independently under the influence of even the faintest currents of air in a domestic interior. Balance is the crucial factor both for movement and visual impact, allowing the individual shapes to become a three-dimensional unity of infinite variations moving through light and space. The "father" of mobiles within art was Alexander Calder (1898-1976), the American artist and sculptor. Flensted Mobiles is a family business: in 1954 Christian Flensted made his first mobile to celebrate the christening of his daughter - He cut out three storks, mounted them in two straws, and the first Flensted Mobile was made!
