Ikat weaving is an ancient technique that has been used for centuries to create fabrics with beautiful patterns. It is believed that the technique has been developed independently and in parallel on different continents.
The term is actually used to describe a dyeing technique with which the patterns tare created on the fabric.
Ikat fabric is produced by following the below steps:
Desired patterns are drawn on the warp and weft yarns by hand,
The bundles of yarn are tightly tied together to match the desired pattern,
The threads are dyed multiple times to create the desired pattern,
The previously tied and dyed yarns are untied and placed carefully on the loom,
Then the fabric is weaved.
